Sorry Tomo but I have to say that I'm not a fan of the Town Screen. The buttons might say clear what they're for and are easy to tap but I think it screws up the art in the background and doesn't do justice to the design of the other things in the game.

I think a new approach would be needed to select each place directly in the image like you implemented it in the battle screen where it is possible to tap on the enemy to do a simple attack. To do this properly and make it clear to the players what places they can select I got the following ideas:
1) draw a thin border around each area/place to seperate them visibly
2) highlight the area by single tap. e.g. change the color slightly/make it brighter or darker and write the name of the place on the marked part of the image
double-tap to go to the place (not sure about that yet, but since there's no mouseover like on a pc to display the name of the area i thought about displaying the name when single-tapping)
3) display the areas you can go to bright (like there's the sun shining) and others that are not available at this moment darker (like no sun/in the shadows)
4) maybe new art/new map is required where the different areas ar further apart (right now they're really close together)

Wow, once I started more and more things came to my mind. I doubt that everything would be possible to implement in reasonable time but I think design/layout is really important to catch new player's attention. So I just wante to give you some ideas for version 13.5234 or something  Wink

Wow ... this is (almost) exactly what I wanted to implement originally
but I end up doing what I've done due to:

1) not having proper art works required to fulfill the town building such as training hall or school
(maybe I might be able to find one or two, but they don't go well with current town image)
2) (unless implement some scrolling) original resolution I work with, which is 320x480
is not large enough to display bunch of images that has enough detail
3) I was so eager to start working on game logic
(I totally agree that UI/layout design makes huge difference to end users)
4) There is only 24 hours in a day - if it has 40 hours I might have a chance! (j/k)
But on little serious note, I'm doing this project all by myself
(other than borrowed resources) and I have a day job as software developer
so my time is limited. If only human doesn't have to sleep... (ok, I'll stop here)

So in next little while, I don't think I can't really implement this but
I'll keep in mind this when I'm going to design DW2 town screen
and allocate more time to design and implement better town as you've suggested,
something that is much more appealing to end users.

I'm glad you liked my ideas and are already planning something like that for future games.

Yes, it's probably better to do this in DW2 since it would be a really big change of the UI of the game and be extremely timeconsuming.

I know that you're making the game on your own - which is really impressing, because I think you did a tremendous job with DW! I can't expect you to update the game all the time and so on, I guess you're already putting a whole lot of your time off work into this game. Take it easy  Smiley
